Welcome to YAhM

What is it?

Yet Another Hockey Manager, or YAhM (pronounced like "Yam"), is an online-based hockey simulation game. The project is similar in scope and design to the popular Eastside Hockey Manager game, with more emphasis on league play and community. The most important difference is that the game will be developed with a web interface using PHP, MySQL, and whatever other glorious internety features our team has the time to put together.

How does it work?

Players assume the role of General Managers of teams in a hockey league. Here, they have the goal of managing the team via trades, line changes, contract negotiations, and other managerial duties. A commissioner (or any designated sub-commissioners) runs simulated game days ("sims"), in which teams play each other with a scheduling system. Under the default settings (set to mirror the real life NHL), after an 82-game-per-team regular season, a four-round, best-of-seven playoff tournament commences in which the best 16 teams compete for the championship.

Commissioners will be able to change the number and locations of teams, number of divisions, number of games played, and other such variables as they see fit. Other regular features include a player entry draft, free agency, trading, and whatever else we can think of to throw in the program.
